Rapid Weight Loss Myths

There is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to be slimmer just to have a sexier body. Many people have moulded their bodies to make them look more healthy and more desirable. However, there is no way to attain this new appearance in a day of two. The problem is that most people do not want to wait, they want it now.

This can lead to these people making rather rash and, it has top be said, rather silly decisions. They are not willing to wait and they are not willing to work for what they want. This is why so many people turn to rapid weight loss diets. Some ‘guru’ brings out a new fad diet and a good proportion of the ‘I want it now’ crowd jump on the band wagon. Only to be disappointed again within the year or less.

Speed diets or rapid weight loss diets tend to put out great advertising copy that is very hard to resist. However, all diets, no matter which one you choose, Weight Watchers, Atkins or fad diet, depend on overweight people making lifestyle changes in order for them to work permanently.

There is a very apposite saying: if you always do what you always did, then you will always get what you always got. That says it all. You can lose weight with all but the stupidest of diets, but if you go back to your old ways when you hit your target weight, you MUST slowly, but surely creep back to your old weight.

If you give your body more calories than it needs, it will store them for when it does need them. The problem is that that day never comes for too many people, because they never exercise themselves. This is particularly true of fad diets like the ‘cabbage water’ diet. Yes, you will lose weight on it, but you would lose weight by fasting whatever you did. For a while, and then you might get sick. For a diet to work, it has to be flexible and enjoyable enough for you to be able to stick with it for the rest of your life. Make no mistake, dieting is long-haul.

Many rapid weight loss programs actually only squeeze the water out of you. Just like a wet sponge. But a good dieter maintains his or her grip on that sponge, not letting it soak up water again. The problem with short term dieting, is that you let go of the sponge underwater.

This is why serial dieters first lose weight and are delighted; then finish dieting, go back to their old weight and become disheartened. In that state of depression they are suckers for the advertisers of the next latest craze diet. In other words, they are being manipulated and literally squeezed dry, but of their money too.

These silly rapid weight loss programs also include fat loss pills. They are not making you lose fat, well, maybe a tiny amount gets washed out with all the surplus water you are carrying. They are only diuretics under another name. How many pills would I sell if I called them diuretics? How many more would I sell if I called them miracle fat loss pills?

Type the word diuretic into a engine and learn more about them. They are all around you in mild healthy forms. A diuretic will basically cause your body to lose more fluid than was in the diuretic. Tea is a diuretic, for instance.

This list of these dopey dieting aids to rapid weight loss goes on and on, but someone must be buying them and you can bet your bottom dollar that it is the sad, depressed dieter who let go of the sponge.

Slimming soap! Slimming soap is being advertised as being a rare Eastern remedy for obesity. Well, let me tell you, I live in the East and I have never seen it here. Asians are slim because they do a lot of physical labour and do not come under the pressure to eat junk food that Westerners do, although that situation is changing rapidly too.

Magnetic weight loss earrings, I ask you! Even being inebriated without a present for your wife ten minutes before Christmas Day is not a good enough excuse to fall for this one, surely? The advertisers say that the secret of this set of earrings is that they are magnetic.

Well, if you believe this, why not get a pair of $1 children’s toy magnets or even a couple of fridge magnets and put one in each hip pocket? Two? Well, after all, you would not want to lose weight from only one side, would you? You would be lop sided.

Just remember, when you are looking for a rapid weight loss diet: there ain’t one ( that will work for life). If you are putting on weight, then your lifestyle is wrong and it is up to you alone to change it.

The Rapid Weight Loss Con

It is a good idea to set yourself targets, if you want to achieve a goal. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to go about this. For example, if you are a size 14 and you spend a fair bit of money on some gorgeous size 8 dresses as motivation, you will probably feel quite cheesed off if you are not wearing them a month later.

It is not a good idea to make yourself feel bad, so the right way to have done this would have been to set smaller, more easily attainable, less expensive goals. A consequence of disappointing yourself like that could be depression or / and desperation and desperation to meet your targets can lead to stupid decisions.

Stupid decisions like following a fad diet, because it promises you rapid weight loss. There is no such thing as sustainable rapid weight loss without a change of lifestyle. Yes, you can go for surgery and have lumps cut off yourself or you can pump yourself full of diuretics and squeeze the water out of yourself, but the weight will come back, unless you modify the way you live.

Any diet that promises rapid weight loss without recommending a healthier, more active lifestyle is doubtful. Many of these types of diet are fad diets. The organizers of these diets are only interested in selling you magic potion drinks or powders as meal substitutes. I have even seen one company selling magnetic earrings which were ‘guaranteed’ to make you lose weight, if you dieted and did more exercise!

Of course you will lose weight if you diet and exercise, but carrying the earrings around with you is not helping. It just adds to the depression when you read in the newspaper that the guru you have been following is outed as a charlatan.

Here are a few tell-tale signs to help you spot a phony diet:

Any diet that requires you to miss meals should start red lights flashing. If you stop eating, you are reducing the number of calories you are eating, so you can expect to lose weight. That is not rocket science. You do not need to pay for advice like that.

However, this tactic does not necessarily work either. If you miss a meal, your blood/sugar levels will drop and that has different consequences for different people, but none of them are good. It will also increase the likelihood that you will overeat at the next meal. It would be better to eat a salad, an apple or a banana instead.

Any weight loss program that says you can lose weight without exercising or without dieting is definitely iffy too, because exercise is essential for good blood circulation and metabolism, which are vital to your losing weight and living healthily.

However, exercise alone will not guarantee good health, you have to diet too. In this context ‘dieting’ just means eating healthily.

You do not have to wear anything special to lose weight either. Electric vibrating belts, magnetic earrings, sweat-inducing cummerbunds and the like, do not work. Full stop. They do not work and in a similar vein, powder and liquid substitutes are not worth it either. Get a liquidizer and make your own or just eat properly.

How To Keep To Your Resolution To Lose Weight.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the most frequent New Year’s resolution in the West is to lose weight. However, it is also the first New Year’s resolution most likely to be broken! Losing weight is not hard in theory, but practice is oh, so different. This is because it involves lifestyle changes.

Our bodies change as we get older and usually our level of activity decreases too. Perhaps, we get an office job with a promotion, whereas we used to work ‘in the field’. But people in general, do not adjust their diet to match their change in circumstances. We sit behind our desks or in retirement and think we can still eat and drink like we did twenty years ago. Big mistake!

Luckily, there are dozens of diets available to help us reach our weight loss goals. There are the traditional calorie counting diets, as espoused by Weight Watchers; there are the ‘new era’ diets like Atkins, which have us counting carbohydrates and there are no end of fad diets which are frankly not worth wasting time discussing.

The choice of which diet you would like to follow is all yours, of course, but it is well worth examining the main types of diet to see which one will suit you. Then you must determine whether you will require the help and encouragement of a weekly visit to a club or not, or whether you can get that camaraderie from an online club of slimmers, where you talk to fellow slimmers in the club forum online.

It is also worth fixing in your mind, why you want to diet. Is it to look better? Or to feel more at ease in yourself? Or is it for health reasons? Or all three? Have a think about your reasons and let them motivate you. Whenever, you feel like packing it all in, remember your motivation. Get a book and journal your progress, but first write your motivation in bold capitals on the front page or cover. Keep it in front of you and read it out loud to yourself every day.

Consult some of the slimming sites online and work out a few key numbers like the typical weight people are for your height, sex and body type and your BMI or body mass index. Write these figures on the first page of your book too and use them as the eventual goals.

You could create a graph and plot your weekly weight to see how you are doing. Set realistic goals and targets. You can get loads of free information from the Weight Watchers and Atkins websites or / and visit your doctor for advice and leaflets.

Aim to lose something like 10-20 pounds in the first month and eight to ten per month after that. Go slowly and aim to go slowly, because then you will hit your targets and you won’t feel like giving up. When you get within five to ten pounds of your target weight, assuming that you have lost a lot of weight, rein back a little and allow yourself a little more freedom. Drop your target to one pound a week, so that you will get a feel for ‘eating normally’.

The dreaded exercise; you have to face it, you will have to do more exercise, but two times thirty minute walks a day is ordinarily enough. You could swim once a week too or get an exercise machine, if you are tied to the house by family.

Pregnant Women And Acne Treatment

Treatment acne is normally the right thing to do, if you have it, but not always. There are times in a person’s life when you should not try to cure acne just because you would like to. Unfortunately, during pregnancy is one of those times. Everyone knows, that this is a delicate part in a woman’s life and that it is that phase of a woman’s life when she must take extra care of herself. If a pregnant woman feels the need to try to cure her acne, she must make sure that she arms herself with the proper information.

This should also be borne in mind by those women who might become pregnant. The following are some treatments for acne that are not good for use during pregnancy because they could be harmful to the fetus:

Hormonal Therapy which could include estrogen, flutamide or spirolactone. They are certainly not allowed, because they are injurious and could result in issues for both the mother and her child. It is better see it as a threat.

Isotretinoin is another one that would put a pregnant woman’s life in danger. It has negative effects as well especially for pregnant women and those that are breast-feeding. It could cause severe health hazards in both the mother and the fetus inside her womb. It is advised that a woman in the process of taking Isotretinoin should be monitored by an expert. Those who are trying to get pregnant must avoid the use of Isotretinoin, because it could trigger negative issues not only for mother but most especially for the child.

Oral tetracyclines which can consist of doxycycline, tetracycline or minocycline, may not be an option on any account, because it is harmful. It has been proven that pregnant women or those who are breast-feeding must avoid the use of this drug at all costs, because it could produce side effects that are nothing short of life-threatening to you and your baby, although the most common side effect is the permanent discoloration of your teeth or / and bone issues.

Topical retinoids, such as tazarotene, adapalene and tretinoin, is the last group that must be avoided. Just like the above-mentioned cures, topical retinoids may be another hazard to you and your baby. Even if you are pregnant or not, it is not wise to use any of the treatments mentioned above.

For sure, those women, who are pregnant and have acne, really ought to refrain from the heavy therapies mentioned here. Instead, why not settle for more traditional cures, such as keeping your hair up off your face, cleaning your face three or four times a day, changing your pillow slips every day, consuming more fresh fruit and avoiding fatty, oily and spicy food?

Losing Belly Fat By Dieting

The process of eliminating the unattractive and potentially dangerous fat deposit around the waist cannot be undertaken seriously without a satisfactory belly fat diet, because the procedure has to begin with a good diet, if it is going to work. You must have the right mental approach too, but it is not enough on its own.

You need to analyze your eating habits carefully, identify the good and bad foods that help or impede the weight loss process and eliminate the bad ones. There are many choices of belly fat diets available online and most of them stress the importance of sticking to a low-calorie routine.

Everyone knows these days that wholemeal, unprocessed or brown grains, seeds, certain vegetables, fruits, lean meat and fish should be the main components of any diet and it is the same for a belly fat diet too. Another useful strategy to use against that obstinate layer of fat around the waist is the use of good fats or oils in your cooking and the best examples here are olive oil, soy and flax oil as well as monounsaturated fats from avocado pears and seeds. Nutrients like these control the appetite, meaning that they moderate the pangs of hunger by producing a feeling of being full.

One advantage of a belly fat diet is that it creates excellent benefits for the whole digestive system, which means that constipation and bloating will be eliminated, thereby permitting your body to purge itself of toxins. Toxins can also be flushed away more easily if you drink plenty of water, fruit juice and green tea for instance.

Furthermore, a good night’s sleep of approximately eight hour’s sleep, coupled with moderate physical exercise will promote the effectiveness of any belly fat diet that you may decide on.

Some of the belly fat diets provide suggestions for different breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks, so that the dieter does not need to count calories – a sort of pick-n-mix approach. But it is far better to find lists of foodstuffs with portion sizes and their calorie count, so that you have enough flexibility to enjoy a wider variety of food.

It is not important for this article, which line of attack you want to take: high fibre, low carbohydrate, high protein, vegetarian, or fruit only, it is always a good idea for you be conscious of what you are putting on your table, because this will enable you to make a clearer identification of what works and what does not work for the loss of belly fat in your own individual case.

The main goal of any belly fat diet is to burn more calories than you consume. If you do not achieve this, no positive results will appear even after all the dietary changes you have implemented.

Whether you decide to go for calorie control or you prefer to continue with a slightly adjusted form of your normal diet combined with more physical exercise, it is up to you, but you have to make certain that you steer clear of any dangers and excesses of any kind and try to take a mid-course approach to weight loss, so that you are able to enjoy your accomplishments in a healthy condition.

Acne Breakouts

Acne is one of the commonest skin problems to afflict the human race and it it can be present in all people irrespective of age, caste, colour or gender. Acne is a tremendously embarrassing and burdensome disease, because it is so obvious and off-putting. Acne can be described as red eruptions on the skin, usually filled with a white puss, causing discomfort and irritation. The most common type of acne is called acne vulgaris or puberty spots.

Acne vulgaris can be defined thus: … an inflammatory disease of the skin, caused by changes in the pilosebaceous units (skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland) . Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, spots or zits – [source: Wikipedia]. It is a heart-breaking problem that we do not appear to have complete control over. However, there are different ways to treat acne: you can go in for medication from a skin specialist or you can go in for home or natural treatments.

Natural remedies are less time consuming, less expensive and have no side effects. However, they do take a bit more patience, because certain routines have to be followed rigorously in order to get rid of the problem for good. A home remedy for acne is just as effective as medication. Here are a few natural remedies to cure your acne. To start with, your daily consumption of water ought to be a minimum of eight to ten glasses. This helps you to detoxify your system and kill the harmful bacteria that cause acne.

An over-balance of oily food also leads to acne, so fried, oily and spicy food should be religiously avoided. A near complete avoidance of fried and fatty food will have a notable, beneficial effect on any acne outbreak. Furthermore, if you eat more chromium and zinc in your diet, it will help to eradicate acne. There should be the correct combination of diet and hygiene.

A mixture of grated nutmeg with fresh milk regularly applied on the affected area also helps to eradicate acne. Cinnamon powder and honey is equally efficacious in eradicating. The cooled liquid from boiled Neem leaves applied to acne acts as a disinfectant. [The Neem Tree is a tall, usually evergreen East Indian tree (Azadirachta indica) widely cultivated in tropical Asia for its timber, resin, bitter bark, and aromatic seed oil, which is used medicinally and as an insecticide (source: 'Free Online Dictionary')].

The infected area should be washed with anti-acne soap at least three or four times a day. Make-up must be strictly avoided when suffering from acne. Make-up makes acne worse. Acne must never be squeezed as it may cause infection or / and make it spread. Squeezing your acne can also lead to permanent marks on your skin, which leaves your skin looking unsightly. Avoid letting your hair fall onto the acne-affected area too.

Hair ought to be kept tied back to prevent contact with the acne. Pillow covers should be washed on a daily basis to prevent the germ spreading. The regular washing of your skin should be observed to keep it free from germs. Apart from this, a healthy lifestyle should be followed with a proper balance of food, exercise and sleep. Remember if you take good care of yourself, ailments will have trouble afflicting you, especially such a small thing as acne!

Free Weight Loss Programs

The race to fitness is on and a lot of people are getting in on the act. Some people do it in order to achieve a sexy body, some people just do it because they are ashamed of their body, while others do it just to remain fit and healthy. As such, there are many fitness programs available on the Internet, in gyms, spas and fitness centres all over the world. Some are too expensive – so expensive that you will lose weight just by trying to earn the money needed to pursue these fitness programs.

You might not have to go to the gym or the spa or any fitness centre and spend a fortune just to slim down and obtain that desired sexy body. There are many books available in the bookstores] offering weight loss programs which seem convenient and cheap. However, the books are not cheap though. These weight loss programs are gaining immense popularity because of their publicity, testimonials and reviews and you may be confused as to exactly which one to buy. So before you choose which weight loss plan to follow, try reading the following precis of the most popular diet programs out today.

Atkins’ New Diet Revolution by Dr. Atkins: This diet plan encourages a high protein diet with a restricted carbohydrate consumption. You can dine heartily on vegetables and meat, but must not eat bread, rice or pasta. You are not restricted on your fat intake so it is OK to pour on the (correct) salad dressing and freely spread on the butter. However, during the diet, some people may find themselves short on fibre and high on fat and cholesterol. Grains and fruits are also severely restricted.

The Carbohydrate Addict’s Diet by Drs. Heller. This diet plan also advocates following a low carbohydrate diet. It suggests eating mostly meats, vegetables and fruit, dairy and grain products. however, advises against taking in too many carbohydrates. So-called “Reward Meals” can be quite high in fats and saturated fats.

Choose to Lose: by Dr. Goor. It recommends restricting your fat intake. You are given a “fat” budget but you are given free reign on how to spend it. It does not pressure people to watch their carbohydrate consumption. Eating meat and poultry as well as low-fat dairy and seafood is fine. You may also consume vegetables, fruits, cereals, bread and pasta. This weight loss plan is quite healthy, because it recommends healthy amounts of fruits and vegetables as well as saturated fats. Watch your triglyceride levels though. If they are high, trim down on the carbohydrates and eat more unsaturated fats.

The DASH Diet. Advocates moderate amounts of fat and protein but lots of carbohydrates. Primarily designed to lower blood pressure, so the diet plan follows the pyramid food guide and encourages a high consumption of whole wheat grains and fruit and vegetables and low-fat dairy. Some dieters think it advises too much eating to produce significant weight loss.

Eat More, Weigh Less: by Dr. Ornish. Primarily a vegetarian food and low-fat diet. Advises to watch out for low-fat dairy and egg whites. This diet plan is poor in calcium and limits the consumption of healthy foods like seafood and lean poultry.

Eat Right for Your Type: This diet is quite interesting because it centres its advice on your blood group. For instance, it recommends plenty of meat for people with the blood type O. However, diet programs for some blood types are nutritionally imbalanced and too low in calories. Furthermore, just for the record, there is no proof that blood type can affect dietary needs.

The Pritkin Principle: It focuses on cutting back on the amount of calories by eating ‘watery’ foods that make you feel full. It recommends eating vegetables, fruits, oatmeal, pasta, soups, salads and low-fat dairy, which it says is fine, although it also restricts protein sources to lean meat, seafood and poultry. It is healthy since it allows low amounts of saturated fats and rather large amounts of vegetables and fruits. However, it is low on calcium and limits lean protein sources.

Volumetrics: It recommends eating fewer calories. It recommends roughly the same foodstuffs as Pritkin but restricts fatty food and dry foods like popcorn, pretzels and crackers. This diet is fairly healthy given the high volume of fruit and vegetables. It is also low in calories and saturated fats.

The Zone: It is moderately low on carbohydrates but fairly high on proteins. It recommends low-fat protein foods such as fish and chicken and vegetables, fruits and grains. It is also a healthy plan but lacking in grains and calcium.

Weight Watchers: They recommend high carbohydrate meals, but are moderate on fats and proteins. A very healthy diet plan and very flexible too. It permits the dieter to plan his own meals rather than offering recipes, although there are WW TV dinners in the shops.

The Atkins Grapefruit Diet

The Atkins Grapefruit diet is a diet plan, not endorsed by the company of Dr. Atkins, that plays on the fame of the grapefruit diet and the Atkins diet name. A closer inspection of this diet reveals that it may not be all it claims to be.

First of all, it’s pretty difficult to find information on the Atkins grapefruit diet plan. Smart people realize that when someone is carrying out a deception, or a con, they will often gloss over facts. This is exactly what the Atkins grapefruit diet seems to do: it tries to persuade people to associate it with two purportedly effective diets.

Is the Atkins Grapefruit Diet part of the Atkins Diet or endorsed by the estate of the late Dr. Atkins? The answer is no, not only is there no mention of the Atkins Grapefruit Diet on the Atkins website, but there is no fruit of at all mentioned in the list of permitted foods in the Atkins diet Induction phase.

The induction phase includes the following foodstuffs:

Fish of any species. Any fowl such as turkey and chicken. Any shellfish. Any meat such as beef or pork. Eggs cooked in any style, including fried. Cheese. Vegetables. Herbs and Spices. Fats and Oils. Low carbohydrate beverages, including diet soft drinks.

Do you notice anything? No fruit is on that list. Later phases of the Atkins diet do include limited quantities of fruits such as cantaloupe, strawberries and even lemon juice, and the pre-maintenance and maintenance phases even specifically permit limited amounts of grapefruit. But when compared to the amount of Grapefruit recommended on the Atkins Grapefruit Diet, again there is a discrepancy.

The Atkins Grapefruit Diet advocates a cup of grapefruit juice or a cup of grapefruit sections, with 8 and 18 carbs respectively. Even the most generous phases of the Atkins diet advocates limiting grapefruit intake to below 8 carbs per day. That’s a direct contradiction of one diet with the other.

Most reasonable people would inspect the Atkins website itself the moment they heard of the Atkins Grapefruit Diet. When they found no mention of that diet on the site, a red light would go off and an alarm bell would ring.

Generally speaking, you should remember this: any diet that recommend very much on one foodstuff, such as grapefruit on a grapefruit diet, is unhealthy for any but extremely short periods. The Atkins Grapefruit Diet is not associated with the Atkins diet, and may disrupt with the results of the Atkins diet in its early phases.

Should You Use Bread Machine Mixes In Bread Making Machines?

Do I think that bread machine mixes are any good? Yes, some of them are, but the problem with all bread machine mixes is that they place limitations on your choice and discourage your creative talents. That may sound a little harsh, but think about it for a minute. If you rely on bread machine mixes you can only make the bread for which you can find a bread machine mix and you can only tip the bread machine mix into the bowl and switch the bread making machine on. You are not encouraged to alter the bread machine mix for fear that it won’t work.

OK, what is the alternative? Well, the old-fashioned recipe book, of course! Not just any old recipe book, but a special bread making machine recipe book. Bread making is a very easy, but very tiresome process. The ingredients are ubiquitous, everyday, household items: water, flour, yeast, salt, sugar and oil. You most certainly have those items in your kitchen with the possible exception of yeast, which can be bought in any super store for very little money and it keeps for ages.

And you know what happens when you follow a recipe, don’t you? You’ve read the recipe through and you know you have everything in the kitchen, but when the recipe calls for, say, currants, you open the cupboard door and see that you don’t have any currants – they were sultanas! Oh, well you think, they’ll do. You make do. You experiment. You are developing your skills and creativity. Bread making mixes cannot do that for you.

A good bread making machine cookbook will have well over 100 recipes originating from a number of different countries and you will get really enthusiastic about trying out the different ones. Have you ever eaten Welsh bread – Bara Brith? Or Amish bread? Jalapeno bread or onion bread? Cranberry bread is lovely too, but one of my all time favourites is Brazil Nut Bread – absolutely scrumptious.

The point is that you may not find recipes for all these breads in one place, but if you have a safe starting point, like a bread recipe cookbook, you can start off by using previously tried and tested gourmet bread recipes and gradually concoct your own – sometimes you don’t have everything.

I once made a fantastic loaf of bread by adding some of the leftover vegetables from my Sunday meal. It was lovely, but I could never quite make the same loaf again, because I did not write down the proportions of the vegetables. I could only remember that it had green beans, potatoes and sweet corn in it!

Bread machine mixes will never ever provide that, will they? Furthermore, bread machine mixes are fairly expensive compared to the cost of 10 pounds of flour. I usually vary the ingredients too: honey instead of sugar, milk instead of water, olive oil or butter instead of just corn oil. Rock salt instead of sea salt or visa versa. I’m sure you see what I mean.

Bread machine mixes are not only limited but limiting too. Furthermore a bread making machine is a great way to use up leftovers. I have even added meat and fruit in my gourmet bread. My principle is: if it’ll go in a sandwich it’ll go in the dough – like an Indian stuffed paratha or stuffed naan bread.

Don’t waste your money buying bread machine mixes – instead be creative with a bread machine recipes cookbook.

If you use bread machine mixes visit http://bread-machine-mixes.the-real-way.com to see what you’re missing. This and other unique content ” articles are available with free reprint rights.
